PE is
offered in many forms at The John Fisher School.
In Key Stage 3 the boys have one
PE lesson per week in which they will study a wide range of sports.
These include gymnastics, basketball, volleyball, badminton, fitness
and athletics. The focus in these lessons is to improve skill levels,
increase tactical awareness and develop the ability to evaluate
their own and others' performance.
In addition to this PE lesson the boys also take part in a double
games lesson. In Years 7 and 8 the emphasis is on rugby for the first
3 half terms. This is then followed by a half term of football, which
is taught by the B Tec National students. In the summer the boys are
offered cricket and athletics. In Year 9 those boys not playing rugby
for the school spend a half term on each of football, tennis,
badminton and swimming. In the summer term the boys are given a choice
of a wide range of activities.
During Key Stage 4 the boys
receive one PE lesson in Year 10 and a double games lesson in both
Year 10 and 11. Again a wide range of sports are offered in curricular
PE; these include badminton, basketball, health & fitness, lacrosse,
short tennis and athletics.
Year 10 games follows the same format as Year 9 with a rotation of
football, tennis, badminton and
swimming. In Year 11 boys
have a free choice of activity.
