In 2006 Robin Hood Junior School was very proud
to be officially recognised as a Healthy School
and to receive the Healthy School's award.
Healthy eating is included in the school curriculum and children are
encouraged to eat healthily at lunchtimes.
At morning playtimes our School
Council sells fruit based products
from our Healthy Food stall. They
run this small business in a very
professional manner and carefully
record each day’s takings. This
enterprise has been such a success
that with their profits they have
been able to purchase a new digital
camera for every class in the school.
Come back soon and see a
photograph of our healthy food stall.
Come back soon and see a photograph of pupils running along a sports track.
As a school we encourage the children
to adopt a healthy lifestyle with plenty
of outdoor exercise. Sporting activities are
encouraged in the playground at lunch-times
as well as after school.
Our Allotment Club have been researching the benefits of organically grown
food and during food tasting sessions have been able to compare the flavours
of the organic vegetables they have grown in our Eco Garden.
The girls were very proud to prepare
and cook an organic vegetable stir fry
for Mrs Fisher our headmistress using
vegetables from our first harvest.
They were able to repeat their
culinary success by preparing a similar
lunch for our Ofsted Inspectors.
"Dear Pupils,
We enjoyed our visit to your school and want to thank you for
the polite and friendly in which you all welcomed us. We asked
you what you will remember most about your school when you leave it.
Now it's our turn. There are lots of things, but perhaps the most
memorable were the visit to the allotments and tasting the wonderful
fresh vegetables - even courgette flowers - which you had grown and
prepared with fresh lemon thyme.
You are especially good at leading healthy lifestyles - not only your
sensible eating, but also in the amount of exercise you take."
In 2006 we launched our WOW (Walk Once a Week) campaign. This was attended by parents, governors, representatives from Robin Hood Infants School and the Mayor of Sutton who assisted in the planting of three trees to mark the occasion.
