Since September 2005 school inspections have used a four point scale to
record judgments about performance with ‘outstanding’ being the highest grade.
Schools are included on the basis of the judgements about
their overall effectiveness, pupils' achievements, the quality of teaching, the effectiveness of
leadership and management and the extent of improvement since
their previous inspection. In addition these schools have no significant
weaknesses.
