We all hear....MUM....What can I do ???

Well there's........

CHOIR

Children join the choir from the end of Reception through to Year 3 in the Infant Choir, and Year 3/4 to Year 6 for the Junior Choir..They show an amazing committment and come every week on Wednesday till 4.30pm, which is important as they participate in all number of competitions and concerts. Both choirs play a vital part in Mass and all our services or celebrations at St. Elphege's Church.

They have had great success all due to the dedication of Mrs. F. Hawkes and Mrs. Russell, with Mrs. S. Doherty Mr. Jones and Mr. price, who play the piano.

So, what have they done...............................

For example.........
In November 2006 the Junior choir sang at the Royal Albert Hall in the Schools' Proms Concert. They were invited to take part due to their outstanding performance in the
'National Music for Youth Festival'. The school was extremely proud of the children and their performance to thousands was excellent.

What a FANTASTIC achievement.

There are always many proud parents, grandparents and member of staff in the audiences.

Both the Junior and Infant choir compete in the 'Sutton Music Festival' and both choirs are always successful and look so professional. Well Done. A joy to watch.

A special thank you to members of staff and parents who support and look after the choirs during all rehearsals, competitions and events.

The hard work and commitment of our children, makes all this possible, and also the wonderful support of our parents. Thank you.

A big thank you to Mrs. Hawkes, Mrs Russell, Mr. Jones, Mrs. Docherty and Mr Price for training the children to such high standards.

So watch the Managed Learning Environment for the latest news and letters for all choir members.

IRISH DANCING

Every Thursday in the infant hall you can find a dedicated Mrs. Connolly and her helpers teaching interested infants from Reception to Year 2 the steps in Irish Dancing. They love the music and dance. We can all see this when they dance for us at the end of the year. They work so hard and over the year become exceptionally disciplined and lovely dancers. Huge thanks must go to Mrs. Connolly who gives her time for the children to enjoy the dancing.

The only thing Mrs Hawkes and Mrs Connolly ask is that the children come to both choir and irish dancing regularly. The fun and enjoyment go without saying.

Please write a letter to Mrs Connolly (a parent who runs the club) to say your child wants to take part.

Sport anyone......!!!

Each year we are lucky to have either local trainers or enthusiastic boys from The John Fisher School or Wilsons to coach some of our football enthusiasts in the skills needed to be the next Frank Lampard or Steven Gerrard. The children love football training and are looking forward to the World Cup this year and showing off what they can do.....

Mr. Green encourages enthusiastic young sports people in games clubs.

Mr. Lawler, our Sports and Community Manager, and Mr. O'Connor train many school teams in football, cross country running and athletics through the year where the children develop confidence, motivation and independence reflecting a fit and healthy school.

Mrs. Jones and Mrs. Penny train our Netball teams and they enjoy playong in Borough competitions.

Mrs. Jones loves dancing and you can join her at her dance club on Wednesday mornings.

Computer Club......

We have updated our ICT provision and have 30 laptops and a wireless system in the Juniors so that we can use laptops in the classrooms. We have a Computer club on Thursdays after school with Mrs. Smith. We offer this to Year 5 and 6 children. They take an active part in E safety and have participated in workshops with Childnet. We are developing an E Buddy scheme and regularly update the school on E Safety issues. Ellen and Becky from Childnet invited 14 children fron Year 6 to perform a drama presentation to the E Safety Summit in London, Dec 2009. It was a fantastic opportunity and experience which also enabled us to raise the profile of E safety in our school.

ICT Club is a great chance for the children to practice and experiment with the skills they are learning and to develop their understanding of the programs they enjoy and will need to use at KS3. The children also enjoy using remote control cars and designing lego models. They are also able to develop their use of the internet in a secure and controlled environment.
